Salesforce consulting for Retail & Consumer Goods

Retail and consumer goods sit at the intersection of physical inventory, digital channels, and shopper data. The winners have unified DTC, wholesale, and retailer data into one customer profile, automated trade promotion and account planning, and built AI-augmented merchandising on top of clean sell-through data.

Common Challenges

What we see in retail & consumer goods.

The technology and process challenges that come up in nearly every engagement we run in this industry.

Trade promotion measurement

Most TPM systems treat trade promotion as a forecasting exercise. Knowing actual ROI requires connecting trade spend to sell-through.

JBPs that turn into spreadsheets

Joint business plans with retailers should be living documents. Most live in PowerPoint and Excel and get forgotten by Q2.

DTC and wholesale customer data fragmentation

Brands selling DTC and wholesale rarely have one view of a customer who buys both. The opportunity in unifying these is significant.

Field sales and retail execution visibility

Knowing what is actually happening at retail, planogram compliance, out-of-stocks, promo execution, is a real operational problem.

Subscription and recurring revenue at scale

DTC subscription businesses face churn, dunning, and lifecycle complexity that off-the-shelf commerce platforms handle poorly.

Loyalty program proliferation

Loyalty programs often live in their own data silo, separate from CRM, separate from commerce, and separate from real attribution.

Regulatory & Compliance Matters

What we navigate in retail & consumer goods.

Compliance is not a separate workstream, it is embedded in every workflow we deliver. The major frameworks we work within:

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry)

Cardholder data environment scoping, tokenization workflows, and audit-ready compliance evidence.

CCPA / CPRA / GDPR Consumer Privacy

Privacy preference management, data subject request workflows, and consent lifecycle management.

CAN-SPAM / TCPA / GDPR (Marketing)

Marketing consent tracking, suppression list management, and channel-specific opt-in evidence.

FTC Endorsement Guides

Influencer disclosure tracking, sponsored content evidence, and review authenticity workflows.

Product Safety (CPSC, FDA, EPA)

Product registration, recall workflows, and customer safety communication infrastructure.

Sales Tax Nexus (Wayfair)

Multi-state sales tax nexus tracking, marketplace facilitator handling, and economic nexus monitoring.

FAQ

Salesforce for retail & consumer goods: common questions.

Which Salesforce products fit a retailer or consumer goods brand?

The answer depends on whether you sell to shoppers directly, through retailers, or both. Direct-to-consumer brands typically center on Commerce Cloud, Marketing Cloud and Service Cloud, with Data Cloud unifying shopper profiles. Brands selling through retail partners often add Consumer Goods Cloud for account planning, trade promotion and store visits. Many brands run both motions, so we design the customer and account model to handle a shopper and a retail buyer without confusing the two.

How do we unify customer data across ecommerce, stores, marketplaces and loyalty?

Data Cloud or a similar customer data platform resolves identities across those sources into a profile marketing and service can act on. The hard part is identity rules: deciding when an email, a loyalty number and a store transaction belong to the same person. We define matching logic, consent handling and the attributes each team actually needs, then connect ecommerce platforms, point-of-sale data, marketplaces and loyalty systems in priority order rather than all at once.

What privacy and payment considerations apply to retail customer data in Salesforce?

Cardholder data should stay out of the CRM entirely, which helps keep Salesforce outside PCI DSS scope; payment tokens and processor references are enough for service work. Consumer privacy laws such as the CCPA give shoppers rights to access and delete their data, so profile unification must support honoring those requests everywhere a record lives. Marketing consent needs tracking per channel. Your privacy counsel should confirm which state laws apply to your customer base.

How can Agentforce help retail customer service?

Agentforce can resolve routine service requests such as order status, returns, exchanges and product questions, handing off to a person when a case needs judgment. Answer quality depends on connected order data and well-maintained knowledge articles. We start with the highest-volume, lowest-risk request types, measure resolution and escalation quality, and expand only when customers are getting correct answers. Seasonal peaks are a demanding test, so plan launches well ahead of them.
