Salesforce consulting for Legal

Law firms are sophisticated service businesses whose operational technology has often lagged badly behind their financial sophistication. The firms winning have built modern matter management, AI-augmented research and contract review, and the practice analytics that turn partner intuition into evidence.

Common Challenges

What we see in legal.

The technology and process challenges that come up in nearly every engagement we run in this industry.

Matter management built for 2010

Most matter management is structurally unchanged from 15 years ago. Modern firms are moving to platforms that support the way attorneys actually work today.

Realization rate and write-off invisibility

Knowing actual matter, partner, and practice profitability is hard. Without it, optimization is impossible.

Document and knowledge sprawl

iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, individual drives, knowledge gets created and lost on a daily basis without intentional infrastructure.

AI for legal work, but done responsibly

Generic AI tools are not enough. Production legal AI requires custom workflows, proper handling of privilege, and integration with firm-specific knowledge.

Trust accounting and IOLTA compliance

Trust accounting rules are unforgiving. The systems supporting them often are not.

Client and matter intake bottleneck

Slow intake costs the firm new matters. Better workflow, conflict checking, and automation transform the experience.

Regulatory & Compliance Matters

What we navigate in legal.

Compliance is not a separate workstream, it is embedded in every workflow we deliver. The major frameworks we work within:

Model Rules of Professional Conduct

Conflict checking, client confidentiality, trust accounting (IOLTA), and supervisory responsibility workflows.

State Bar Trust Accounting (IOLTA)

IOLTA accounting separation, three-way reconciliation, and audit-ready trust ledger workflows.

Attorney-Client Privilege Protection

Access controls, ethical-wall enforcement, and privileged communication handling within the platform.

GDPR / CCPA for Client Data

Data subject request workflows, retention policy enforcement, and privacy notice management for global firms.

eDiscovery & Litigation Holds

Hold notice workflows, custodian tracking, and preservation evidence that holds up in court.

AML / KYC for Law Firms

Beneficial ownership verification, sanctions screening, and source-of-funds documentation where required.

Signature Service Categories

The major legal practices our team runs.

Each category represents a deep specialization with dedicated playbooks, accelerators, and experienced consultants.

Matter Management & Intake

Matter lifecycle systems, conflict checking automation, intake workflows.

Financial & Realization Analytics

Profitability dashboards by matter, attorney, practice area; realization tracking.

DMS & Knowledge Integration

iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint integrated as first-class CRM citizens.

AI for Legal Work

AI-augmented intake, contract review, document analysis, and legal research support.

FAQ

Salesforce for legal: common questions.

Can Salesforce work for a law firm that already has practice management software?

Yes, as long as each system keeps its job. Practice management and billing platforms handle matters, time and trust accounting, while Salesforce manages client relationships, business development, intake and referral sources. Sales Cloud tracks pitches and cross-selling, Service Cloud structures intake, and Experience Cloud can give clients a secure portal. Firms go wrong when they try to rebuild billing or docketing inside the CRM, so we draw that boundary before configuring anything.

How should intake and conflict checks connect to the CRM?

Intake should capture parties, adverse parties and related entities in a structured form so conflict searches run against clean data. The CRM can orchestrate the workflow, sending the request to your conflicts system, routing results to the reviewing attorney, and opening the engagement once cleared. Integrations with the document management system and billing platform then carry the new matter forward. Structured intake also reveals which referral sources bring matters the firm actually accepts.

What confidentiality considerations matter when a law firm uses Salesforce and AI?

Privilege and client confidentiality drive nearly every design choice. Ethical walls need to be enforced in the sharing model, not just documented in policy, and sensitive matter details often belong in the document management system rather than the CRM. For AI, confirm how prompts and outputs are retained and that models are not trained on client data. Your general counsel or ethics partner should confirm how professional responsibility rules apply to each workflow.

Where does AI help law firm business development and operations?

AI helps most with the administrative work surrounding legal practice. Agents can prepare a client briefing before a partner meeting, summarize a lengthy intake submission, draft follow-up after an event, or suggest cross-selling opportunities from matter history. Contract review and research workflows can also run on Claude with attorney oversight. We keep attorneys as reviewers of anything touching legal judgment and log AI activity so the firm can explain how each output was produced.
